Could someone please tell me when Skulls & Crossbones became preppy? I must have totally missed this, but I honestly don't get it. Please - clue me in!
I think they're cute...I wouldn't wear them as the 36 yo housewife I am. But I might rock them if I were 22. Eliza B has them too, only theirs are kinda ratty looking, which makes them even cuter in my opinion.
My sister wears that stuff but she is 6 years younger and more edgy-preppy. I think it is a different group all together. J. Crew has a lot of stuff that I wouldn't consider straight preppy lately. I still like the clothes- don't get me wrong- but a lot of my more funky/artsy/designy friends shop there now.
This is not my thing either. Oh, and yes the secret society at Yale is men ONLY. I am sure everyone knows this, but President Bush and Jorn Kerry were both selected members!
I bought them I thought they would be cute in the summer. The Jolly Roger made me happy...I'm usually forced to go to at least 3 pirate themed little boy b-day parties. :)
Chi Omega girls would have eaten these up at my college! I don't know if other chapters are still using the skull/crossbones or ever were but it was very big with ours.
I think it's because the skull and crossbones are somewhat of a sign for Rugby (which, in some circles is considered a highly preppy sport)...I only say his because I noticed a lot of these designs on the Ralph Lauren Rugby line. It is DEFINITELY edgier and I personally am not a big fan, but...to each her own.
Hahaha...seriously! I was looking for some cute spring scarves the other day (pink and green of course) and saw one that was cotton candy pink with lime green skulls. So ridiculous.

Doesn't Yale have some secret society or something that's a skull and crossbones?
It's seems like more of a guy thing to me and very odd to be on pink flip flops!
I think its meant to be playful and that is all PREPPY!!! Sort of tongue in cheek too.
I don't get it either.
I totally missed that switch too. Ew!
I am so with you. Bizarre.

I'm not really into that look. And I hope its not around for a long time.
That's weird. And I think the Yale secret society is men only. I guess their girlfriends would wear them.

I don't get it either. I hope you are doing well!

I agree, blaaa, not cute.

that's the link for the RL line...kinda weird!
Here's the link for some pants with the pattern: http://www.rugby.com/shop/item.aspx?productId=3202599&categoryId=3138682
It's quite rampant on clothing by RL Rugby.
I will stick with gators, or polka dots on my eliza B's
I personally HATE skull and cross bones! They have always come off gothic to me. And on pink sandals...disgraceful!
Not sure. I actually like them though. They would be perfect for Buccaneer games!
